Metal Slug mixes infantry shooting, rescue bonuses and the SV-001 tank across six arcade missions.
Marco and Tarma move through heavily animated battlefields, switching between infantry weapons and the tank that gives the game its name. Rescued prisoners can leave supplies, and keeping a rescue streak alive contributes to the end-of-mission score. Close enemies can trigger knife attacks.
Dying resets the count of prisoners rescued for the end-of-mission bonus. If you are playing for score, carrying those rescues to the finish matters as much as finding them. A risky dash for one more prisoner can cost the whole tally.
These are the original six missions. Metal Slug X is a later game with different encounters, weapons and transformations.
