Samurai Shodown II focuses on weapon reach, deliberate attacks and a rage gauge rather than constant close-range combos.
Weapon-based duels give spacing a different importance from unarmed fighters. Long slashes can threaten a large area, but committing at the wrong moment leaves an opening. Rage and weapon-breaking techniques create additional shifts in the balance of a round.
Try a heavy slash just outside its reach and watch the recovery. That missed swing is the opening an opponent can attack. Use the edge of the weapon’s range as your reference when moving in, rather than walking straight into close contact.
This is Samurai Shodown II. Character moves and defensive options vary across later entries in the series.
