Instruction reference

Default Player 1 keys are shown. If you changed them or use a gamepad, check the player’s control settings.

System: Move the pointer over the game screen to reveal the player toolbar, or tap its menu button on touch devices. Use the toolbar for save and load states, fullscreen, and control settings.

Save or load game progress

Launch the game to check save-state support.

Save progress keeps one emulator snapshot for this game on this browser. Saving again replaces that snapshot. Download a backup before clearing site data or changing devices. No account or cloud sync is provided.

Import an OLDGAMES backup on this same game page, then launch and choose Resume saved game. Older .state files use the player’s Load State menu.

Favorites bookmark this page; they do not save progress.

  1. After launching, reveal the player toolbar by moving the pointer over the game screen or tapping its menu button.
  2. Choose the save-state download option when available and keep the file.
  3. To restore it, launch the same game and choose the load-state option. Check the restored progress before replacing an older backup.

In-game saves and emulator states are different. Availability varies by game and player. Browser storage can be cleared; a downloaded backup is not cloud sync.

About Super Contra / Super C

Super Contra / Super C — Famicom edition
Super Contra / Super C · Famicom · 1990

Super Contra delivers relentless overhead and side-scrolling cooperative shooting against redoubled alien forces.

Before you play this edition

The 1990 console Super Contra / Super C, distinct from the 1988 arcade game. The guide follows the Super C manual; regional details can differ.

Players: Two players can play simultaneously. Both must advance for the screen to scroll. For a second player, configure Player 2 in the player’s control settings or connect a second gamepad.

Language: The exact language and revision of this browser copy have not been independently confirmed. Check the title screen before following a regional guide.

On a phone: A controller is recommended for two-player games. Physical Android and iPhone compatibility has not been verified.

Side-view and overhead controls

The console sequel alternates side-view shooting with overhead movement. Jumping and going prone are unavailable in overhead stages. In simultaneous two-player mode, both players must advance for the screen to scroll further.

Plan a crossing with your co-op partner

At a camera change, identify the next clear position before pressing a familiar escape button. In co-op, agree on a crossing order and a place to regroup. See the guide below for weapon differences and a short practice routine.

Super Contra and the Super C manual

This is a Famicom/NES catalogue entry. The English instructions call the console game Super C; the catalogue title and year do not identify this file’s region or revision. These notes cover console mechanics rather than an arcade walkthrough.

Super Contra / Super C: camera changes, co-op and weapon choices

For the NES/Famicom console sequel. The English manual calls it Super C; the catalogue title and year do not establish the region or revision of this file.

Check the camera before using a familiar escape move

View / inputAction
Side view: A / BJump / fire.
Side view: DownGo prone; prone firing is unavailable in water.
Overhead viewMovement and aiming remain important; jumping and going prone are unavailable.

At a view change, take a moment to recognise what movement is available. An escape you used in a side-view section may not exist in the overhead section.

Practise moving towards a clear space while aiming at one threat. Keep the next open position in mind before firing again. If you repeatedly get trapped, compare where you moved rather than only which weapon you held.

Test the shot pattern before depending on it

Spread fires in five directions. Machine Gun fires continuously; Laser pierces targets. Rapid Fire does not apply to Laser. Holding and releasing B strengthens a Flamethrower shot.

When collecting a weapon, try it from a clear position and watch its path. Choose the next crossing based on what that path covers, rather than assuming every pickup solves the same problem.

Keep a brief note about the obstacle where a weapon helped. On a repeated attempt, use that observation at the known obstacle and focus your practice on movement elsewhere. A successful pickup should support a route you understand.

Agree on the next crossing in two-player mode

The two-player mode is simultaneous. Further screen scrolling requires both players to advance.

Before a difficult crossing, agree who moves first and where both players will stop. If the view refuses to advance, check the partner’s position before assuming a fault in the browser.

After losing an attempt, discuss one decision: the crossing order, the stopping place or the pickup approach. Keep the part that worked. Changing every decision on the next run makes it harder to find a repeatable co-op route.

Use the documented sound mode, not an assumed regional code

At the title screen, hold A and B and press Start for sound mode. Up/Down selects a track, B plays it, A stops it and Start returns.

This input is documented in the English console instructions. It is not evidence that a lives code from another Contra edition works here. Check the displayed title before following a code list, and use the browser’s controller mappings rather than assuming the letters A and B mean physical keyboard keys.

For the first Contra game, use its separate page. This guide covers the console sequel’s camera changes and co-op mechanics, not the arcade release’s stages.

Common questions

Why does the jump button stop working in an overhead stage?

Overhead stages do not support jumping or going prone. Adjust the route to movement and aiming.

Why does the screen stop scrolling in co-op?

Both players must advance before the screen can scroll further. Check the other player’s position.

Does Rapid Fire change the Laser?

The instructions exclude Laser from the Rapid Fire upgrade.
