About Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night — PlayStation 1 edition
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night · PlayStation 1 · 1997

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night redefines the gothic action genre with non-linear castle exploration, RPG gear progression, and Alucard’s vampiric abilities.

Metroidvania blueprint and gothic exploration

Stepping into Dracula’s castle as Alucard, players navigate an expansive labyrinth filled with weapons, armor, relics, and spells. Defeating bosses unlocks shape-shifting forms—Bat, Wolf, and Mist—allowing access to previously unreachable ramparts, towers, and aquatic catacombs.

Shield Rod synergy and spell casting

Equip the Shield Rod along with the Alucard Shield and press both attack buttons simultaneously. This triggers an invulnerability aura and massive contact damage against late-game bosses.

PlayStation 1 genre defining masterpiece

This is the premier 1997 PlayStation 1 release directed by Toru Hagihara and Koji Igarashi, featuring Michiru Yamane’s orchestral-rock score and the classic voice track.

Secret Codes & Cheats

Check the edition and timing requirements before entering a code. Button names refer to the emulated controller; use your assigned keyboard or controller inputs.

Play as Richter Belmont
Clear game once, start new game with name: RICHTER

After achieving a clear save file of 180% or higher, start a new campaign and enter your name as RICHTER to play through the entire castle with classic Belmont whip mechanics and sub-weapons.

Keep Starting Alucard Equipment
Unequip gear in first hallway; get knocked past Death by Warg

Before entering the room where Death steals your gear, remove your high-tier accessories, jump towards the oncoming Warg monster to trigger a high-knockback hit that slides Alucard past the room trigger, preserving the Alucard Sword and Shield.

Reveal the Inverted Castle (200.6% Map)
Equip Holy Glasses, strike green orb above Richter

In the Castle Keep battle with Richter, equip the Holy Glasses obtained from Maria. Attack the floating green orb controlling him without dealing fatal damage to Richter to unlock the entire upside-down Inverted Castle.
