Tekken 3 revolutionizes 3D fighting on PlayStation with fluid sidestep dodging, grounded juggle physics, and unforgettable roster additions like Jin Kazama and Eddy Gordo.
Tekken 3 redefines 3D combat by unlocking true sidestepping: a light tap on Up or Down causes fighters to pivot smoothly into the foreground or background, completely slipping linear punches and laser attacks. The four-button layout maps cleanly to Left Punch, Right Punch, Left Kick, and Right Kick, encouraging intuitive martial arts strings. Knockdowns introduce varied wakeup tech rolls, mid/low sweeps, and extensive airborne juggle combos that capitalize on airborne float states.
Sidestepping changes every defensive matchup. When facing aggressive linear rushdowns from fighters like Paul Phoenix or Law, tap lightly Up or Down right before their attack lands to sidestep into their blind spot, rewarding you with an unblockable back-turned juggle starter. Eddy Gordo’s unpredictable Capoeira stances can be disrupted by fast crouching jabs rather than trying to guess his 50/50 mixups from standing guard.
This is the benchmark PlayStation 1 port. Building upon the foundation of Tekken 2, it introduces true 3D sidestep mobility, fluid juggle physics, and console-exclusive modes including Tekken Force and comical beach volleyball Tekken Ball.
