Save or load game progress

Launch the game to check save-state support.

Save progress keeps one emulator snapshot for this game on this browser. Saving again replaces that snapshot. Download a backup before clearing site data or changing devices. No account or cloud sync is provided.

Import an OLDGAMES backup on this same game page, then launch and choose Resume saved game. Older .state files use the player’s Load State menu.

Favorites bookmark this page; they do not save progress.

  1. After launching, reveal the player toolbar by moving the pointer over the game screen or tapping its menu button.
  2. Choose the save-state download option when available and keep the file.
  3. To restore it, launch the same game and choose the load-state option. Check the restored progress before replacing an older backup.

In-game saves and emulator states are different. Availability varies by game and player. Browser storage can be cleared; a downloaded backup is not cloud sync.

About Pokémon Red Version

Pokémon Red Version — Game Boy edition
Pokémon Red Version · Game Boy · 1998

Pokémon Red Version kicked off a global phenomenon with 151 collectible creatures, elemental type matchups, and turn-based trainer battles across Kanto.

Elemental battle mechanics and status effects

You journey from Pallet Town through eight Gym Leaders to challenge the Elite Four, assembling a team of up to six Pokémon. Battles rely on turn-based speed statistics and an elemental affinity matrix (Water douses Fire, Grass absorbs Water, Electric shocks Flying). Status conditions like Sleep, Paralysis, and Freeze dramatically shift battle tempo and boost capture probability when tossing Poké Balls at wild monsters. Non-combat Hidden Machines (HMs) like Cut, Surf, and Strength double as field utilities to clear trees and cross ocean water.

Starter selection and dungeon survival preparation

Type matchups dictate survival. Starting with Bulbasaur provides an easy early game against Brock’s Rock types and Misty’s Water gym, whereas Charmander demands patience until you acquire auxiliary combat options like Mankey or Butterfree. Always carry an Escape Rope and a status-curing Antidote when traversing Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon to avoid fainting from poison damage before reaching the next Pokémon Center.

The original Kanto adventure

This is the classic Game Boy Red Version. To complete the Pokédex, trade-exclusive creatures like Electabuzz and Oddish must be exchanged with Pokémon Blue Version, while trade evolutions like Gengar and Alakazam require link cable swapping.
